Hello, my name is Darla Dickensheets from Hillsdale, Michigan and I first fell in love with the Airedale Terrier in the mid 1980s. I was fortunate enough to have my first girl, Brandy, 14 years before losing her to cancer in 1998. Two months later I rescued my boy, Zeus, who stood a tall 28″ and weighed 70+ pounds. Just this past February I lost Zeus and my Giant Schnauzer, Gwen, both 13 years old and both due to kidney disease. They were together their whole lives so it was no surprise that they crossed Rainbow Bridge within months of each other. Wanting to give back to the breed I love so much, I became a SOAR volunteer in August 2011 and am proud to say I ‘failed’ my first fostering assignment by adopting a two year old named Jade. The void I felt has once again been filled.
I am single and a former Michigan State Corrections Officer of 15 years. In 2001 I attended the Lansing School of Canine Cosmotology and groom for myself and a few friends. I enjoy such things as drawing cartoons, reading a good R.A. Salvatore book, attending classic car shows, and playing Xbox with my three nephews. I look forward to taking my new Airedale, Jade, to agility/rally classes and am proud to say we have passed both the Canine Good Citizenship and Therapy Dog International tests.
