An Ode to Aesop
by Janice Parkinson-Tucker
Skills? Skills? What’s that Lady talking about?
I operate on pure charm—Airedalian Charm--
You know what I mean:
Lots of innocent eye contact, a perpetual wagging tail,
A ready smile on my lips.
Bouncing, jumping, tackling, wiggling, whirling—
I have developed a full
Bag of acrobatic actions to amaze everyone—
And satisfy my curiosity, too.
How about counter-surfing?
I’m really good at THAT—
Maybe I was a pirate in another life………….
Probably not--I have no enemies--the world is my oyster!
By an accident of birth
I am a very handsome boy,
(Except that someone snipped away my beard!),
So good looks -- in fact, double good looks,
Charm, a ready smile,
What more is necessary?
Thus far in my young life, I’ve gotten my way, every where I go!
She says that I have almost no boundaries—
What are boundaries?
She says that the few boundaries I might possess are “fluid!”
Now what in our Maker’s Name (I NEVER swear!) does THAT mean?
Whose rules are we going to live by, anyhow?
Well, here I am in Airedale Rescue,
Whatever THAT means--
I wish them luck!
The Lady says she would like to meet me again
In two or three years.
She says that when my skill levels
Match my good looks and charm,
I will be
The Airedale of a Lifetime!
Bring it on—why not?
I am young—the world is my oyster!
