Our Mission

The mission of SOAR is to rescue purebred Airedale Terriers who have found themselves without a home, and help them get started on the road to a happy, new life.

Five volunteers came together at the Barnes and Noble in Brighton, Michigan to wrap books, talk to people about Airedales, and make a little money for rescue.  We were there on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 9:00am to 3:00pm and made a record-breaking $368.17!!!  Many thanks go to Mary Cole (and Dixie Lou), Mary's sister, Ellen, Stacy Helmer (and Stella), Kristin Haney (and Barnaby), and Lynn O’Shaughnessy.

Barnaby was the 4th dog ever to come into SOAR back in 2009.  He came in as an eight week old puppy who loved to lie around on Hostas.  He still does. :-)

Stella was a puppy mill breeder’s girl who had Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy – an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the toe nails.  Under Stacy’s loving care Stella has blossomed into a wonderful, much healthier dog.

Dixie Lou was found as a stray and came to live with Mary earlier this year.  Dixie stayed the entire six hours, although she spent the last few hours sacked out on the floor near our table.

Want to help SOAR next year?  Now might be the time to connect with your local Barnes and Noble to see about reserving a time to wrap for the 2014 holiday season.
