Starting Over Airedale Rescue, Inc. (SOAR) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of Michigan on July 2, 2009.  We are an all-volunteer organization doing the work of Airedale rescue in the states of Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The volunteers of SOAR have many collective years of experience doing Airedale rescue. With this experience comes the knowledge of what it takes to work with families who need to give up their Airedales, animal shelters, adoption applications, adoptive families, foster homes, veterinarians, fundraising, volunteers and everything in between.

Our first priority is always the well-being of the Airedales that pass through our hands.  We make sure that once they are in rescue, they are brought up-to-date on shots, parasite-free, heartworm free and spayed or neutered.  Each of our dogs is microchipped. We address any illnesses or injuries and do as much as possible to get the dogs ready to live healthy lives in their new homes.  We provide a foster home for each dog so that we can evaluate the temperament of our rescues and find out what they like or don't like and how they get along with cats, kids, other dogs, etc.  We work to solve behavior problems that otherwise might keep a dog from being successfully adopted.

We also check out our potential adopters using telephone interviews, reference checks and home visits.  This information combined with what we know about the Airedale gives us the best possible chance at making a permanent match.

Before going to a new home, each rescue Airedale is spiffed up with a bath and grooming and provided with a new collar, leash and tag.  We want to make sure he or she starts out on the right paw with their new family.

Our other major priority is to provide our volunteers with a support system as they do the grassroots work of rescuing Airedales.  We raise money through donations and events to pay for the veterinary care and other expenses involved in rescuing dogs.  We have a transportation network in place so that it is easy to arrange for moving a dog from their foster home to a permanent home or to other locations (a specialized veterinarian, a training facility, etc.).  We cooperate and coordinate with other Airedale rescue groups.  And finally, we are always available to listen to and help volunteers who are having a rescue-related problem and need advice and assistance.

We intend to SOAR into the future, providing the best possible network to help Airedales in need in our region.
